Insignia
VXR powers ahead on affordable performance
Based on the hugely successful 2009 European Car of the
Year, and available in Hatchback, Saloon and Sports Tourer
body styles, the new Insignia VXR is set to take the
performance market by storm when it launches into UK showrooms
this September.
Powerfully
confident
Insignia VXR is designed to perform, not just with power
but with a Nürburgring-proven computer controlled chassis and
innovative technology. This flagship to the Insignia range is
sophisticated, yet powerfully distinctive combining
uncompromising style, sheer driver appeal, performance and
affordability.
With 325PS on tap, a sophisticated four-wheel drive chassis
and 0-60mph acceleration in under 6.0 seconds, it provides
tangible proof of the excitement generated by Vauxhall's VXR
brand. Indeed, it's the first of Vauxhall's race bred VXR
family to feature adaptive 4X4 technology and an electronic
Limited Slip Differential (eLSD), using a bespoke chassis
developed via extensive testing at the legendary Nürburgring
circuit.
Uncompromising
performance
Insignia VXR features a 2.8 litre V6 Turbo power unit
developing 325PS and a massive 435Nm of torque, with both
delivered at 5,250rpm. Hatchback and Saloon models alike reach
a top speed of 155mph and sprint from 0-60mph in just 5.6
seconds. Highlighting the engine's flexibility, they also
accelerate from 50-75mph in fifth gear in just 7.1 seconds,
compared to 8.4 seconds for Elite models.
Extensive
specification
The specification on this car is beyond simply impressive.
Wheels are 19-inch V-spoke alloys (20-inch lightweight forged
alloy wheels are available as an £1,100 option inc. VAT),
while the front seats are leather-trimmed Recaro
multi-adjustable High Performance fitments. The bespoke Brembo
braking system uses four-piston calipers on lightweight vented
and cross-drilled front discs, while tyres are the
top-performing Pirelli P Zero 245/50. The HiPerStrut front
suspension reduces torque steer and delivers incredible levels
of grip in wet or dry conditions. Naturally, the sporting
theme is continued throughout the VXR's interior, from the new
VXR steering wheel design through to the black headlining and
instrument graphics.
For those who want more though, there is the option of the
sumptuous Leather Pack (illustrated below), featuring
perforated leather seat facings, 8 way adjustable driver's
seat with integrated heating and ventilation system, Dual-zone
Electronic Climate Control (ECC) and electric folding mirrors
at £1,300 inc. VAT.

But ultimately, this
car is not just about absolute power...
Stylish, sophisticated, powerful - Insignia VXR ticks
all the right boxes when it comes to affordable performance.
But there's more to Vauxhall's latest VXR model than sheer
brute force.
To quote Andy Gilson, Vauxhall's Marketing Director, "The
Insignia VXR is not just about absolute power, but a
combination of usable performance and chassis sophistication
which is the match of premium rivals, such as Audi's new S4.
In essence, it's an ultra-fast performance saloon that will
appeal to buyers who appreciate subtle yet distinctive
styling, but who need to know that there's real substance
below the car's metal."
