All-New Saab 9-5 Saloon

28 August 2009

Scandinavian Design Purity With Advanced Technology

Sleek, sophisticated and unmistakably Saab, the all-new 9-5 saloon signals the dawn of a new era for the Saab brand. With clean Scandinavian lines, a rewarding drive and economic, tax efficient turbo-charged engines, the new 9-5 is simply the most technically advanced Saab ever produced.

Making its public debut at the 2009 Frankfurt International Motor Show, the all-new 9-5 will bring a fresh, alternative choice to the premium saloon segment when it goes on sale in Spring 2010.

Scandinavian Design

Inspired by Scandinavian design purity, Saab's aircraft heritage and the award-winning Aero X concept car, the clean, new 9-5 shape heralds a bold, new Saab design language.

Viewed from any angle, the all-new 9-5 cuts a strong and powerful silhouette. The low-slung shape features a signature Saab 'hockey stick' belt-line and a deep grille surrounded by curving, ice-block headlamp units. The dynamic, falling roof-line culminates in sweeping rear pillars. Bumpers are subtly flared to blend into the wheels and a full-width, ice-block rear light bar wraps into signature lighting.

Efficient, Affordable Engines

Fleet drivers will be very pleased to see a choice of three fuels - diesel, petrol and E85 bioethanol - featuring competitive fuel economy and competitive P11D tax performance.*1

The all turbo powertrain line-up is the broadest ever offered by Saab. You'll be pleased to hear that the 2.0-litre 160hp turbo diesel offers CO2 emissions as low as 139g/km putting it in the low 18% diesel Benefit-in-Kind tax band (2009/10 tax year).

The petrol line-up includes a 220hp 2.0-litre turbo and a top-of-the-line 2.8 V6 turbo, generating
300 hp and 400 Nm of torque - exclusively with Saab XWD. A 180hp 1.6-litre petrol turbo will be introduced shortly after launch, together with a 2.0-litre BioPower E85-capable engine. All transmissions are six-speed.

Driver-Focused Cabin

Inside the spacious 9-5 cabin, legroom and shoulder width are increased both front and rear, with class-leading rear legroom. The materials, fit, finish and tactile quality all reflect the new 9-5's premium character.

While the driver-focused cockpit is traditional Saab, the new 9-5 execution is pioneering. A rolling 'altimeter' speed read-out, a start/stop button and optional head-up display (HUD) in the windscreen all make reference to Saab's aviation heritage. Keyless entry and starting, dynamic parking assistance and dual-zone climate control are all available.

Infotainment choices include a top-of-the-line Harman Kardon 5.1 channel surround sound audio system, an 8-inch colour touch screen navigation system with 10GB for MP3 music files, and both USB and Aux ports for portable devices. Rear seat entertainment includes optional folding viewing screens in the front seat backs and wireless headphones.

On The Road

An array of chassis technology ensures a sporty, rewarding 9-5 driving experience. Saab XWD with eLSD, the industry-leading all-wheel-drive system, is offered at launch, and Saab DriveSense adaptive chassis control with real-time damping control is available throughout the range - as are
Bi-Xenon Smart Beam adaptive headlights and adaptive cruise control.

A New Era

The all-new 9-5 is the most technically advanced car ever produced by Saab. It will be built at Saab's home plant in Trollhattan, where it has been engineered. Combining head-turning good looks with cutting edge driving technology, it's the start of a new era of Saab.
