All New Astra: Designed for a greener world

7 October 2009

Engineered to energise

Following its World Premiere at this September's Frankfurt Motor Show, the all-new Astra is set to revitalise Vauxhall's presence in the lower medium sector in the same way that the award-winning Insignia has re-established the company at the forefront of the Upper Medium Segment. All-new Astra is poised to raise the bar for compact cars with a combination of ultra-efficient powertrains, exceptional quality and levels of equipment and technology seldom seen in this class.

On sale now, and in UK showrooms from December, all-new Astra will uphold Vauxhall's tradition of offering buyers levels of innovation and technology normally found in a class above, but at a price point that offers exceptional value for money.

Green and lean engine line-up cuts Benefit-in-Kind tax

The new, tax-efficient Exclusiv models offer great advantages for businesses and Company Car Drivers alike. The Exclusiv 1.4i 16v VVT (87PS) enters the market at £15,675 on-the-road and now offers as standard air conditioning, electronic stability control, 16-inch wheels and a MP3-format radio/CD player with aux-in.

The new Exclusiv 1.7CDTi 16v (110PS) model enjoys an 11g/km reduction in CO2, drops a full VED band and due to its lower list price, reduces employer National Insurance contributions and delivers Benefit-in-Kind savings for drivers. As the table below highlights, 20% income tax drivers will be pleased to see savings over the outgoing equivalent with a BiK tax bill of only £53.50 per month (£642 annually).*1

All diesel engines in all-new Astra share cutting edge multi-injection common rail systems, variable geometry turbochargers, DOHC 16-valve heads, and electronic EGR technology and all meet the tough new Euro 5 emission standard. As a result, when it comes to the range topping 2.0CDTi unit, CO2 emissions have reduced by 20g/km despite the increase in power.

As the table below shows, Benefit-in-Kind tax has therefore reduced over current Astra. Add to this an improved combined fuel consumption of 57.6mpg (50.4mpg on current Astra) and a VED reduction of two bands, whole life costs over the life cycle of the vehicle will confirm all-new Astra's affordable position on Fleet Decision Makers' choice lists.

Significant improvements have also been made in the range of petrol engines. The new-to-range 1.4i 16v VVT Turbo (140PS) engine reduces CO2 emissions by 18 per cent and BiK tax by seven bands yet retains its 140PS output. With substantial BiK savings (see table below) and an increased level of equipment (electronic parking brake, centre armrest and active head restraints now all standard), Company Car Drivers will find all-new Astra affordable as well as a real performer.

As you can see, all-new Astra will appeal to the hearts and minds of Company Car Drivers offering efficiency and performance without compromise. And with the 95PS 1.3CDTi 16v ecoFLEX model to arrive in early 2010 with ultra-low CO2 emissions of 109g/km, 13% BiK tax and full 100% Writing Down Allowance, the all-new Astra story builds and builds.
