Following our recent news of the new Insignia hatchback and saloon launch at the British International Motor Show, we are pleased to keep Fleet Decision Makers up-to-date with news of the third new Insignia model. The first official shots of this exciting new Insignia estate are released today ahead of the car’s debut at the Paris Motor Show on 2 October 2008.
Known as the Sports Tourer, the third Insignia body style will be available to UK buyers in the second quarter of 2009, featuring two new engines – a more powerful turbo diesel and a smaller capacity turbocharged petrol unit. This is in addition to the five powerplants already available in the saloon and hatchback models. A Sports Tourer ecoFLEX model, with competitive low emissions and fuel consumption, will also be available in the near future.
Unique styling
Sports Tourer is not simply an estate version of the new Insignia saloon. All of the bodywork behind the B-pillars is unique to this model, while reflecting the same sculptural artistry and technical precision found in the saloon and hatchback models.
Our designers have given the rear of the Sports Tourer a unique, yet cohesive appearance by pulling the wrap-around tailgate deep into the car’s flanks, accentuated with large, fully integrated tail lights.

Impressive interior space
Inside, as with the Insignia saloon and hatch, the Sports Tourer has ample room for five adults and a large loadspace. While full loadspace dimension and capacity details will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show, we can confirm that the Sports Tourer retains the hatch and saloon’s wheelbase (2737mm) and adds around 80mm to its length.
New petrol and diesel engines
The new petrol and diesel engines available in the Sports Tourer will complement the Insignia launch line-up, including the 130PS and 160PS 2.0CDTi 16v units, which achieve up to 58.9mpg*1 on the extra-urban cycle, the 220PS 2.0i 16v Turbo and the 260PS 2.8i 24v V6 range-topper, which is capable of powering the Insignia from 0-60mph in 6.7 seconds*2.
Like the new Insignia hatchback and saloon, the Sports Tourer will also be available with front- and all-wheel drive, as well as Vauxhall’s FlexRide system with its Adaptive Stability Technology. And the same can be said for other new Insignia innovations such as Vauxhall’s latest generation Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL), with its nine light beam settings, and the Front Camera System, which can read and memorise road signs and alert drivers if they unintentionally leave their lane*3.
New Insignia Sports Tourer pricing will be announced when the order banks are opened on 2 October.
