New
Meriva opens doors to class-leading access and innovation
8 January 2010
Pushing flexibility
to the max
Some six years and over 107,000 UK sales since
it effectively created the small monocab sector, Vauxhall's clever
and versatile Meriva model is giving way to a new replacement. And
the good news is our Second Generation new Meriva looks set to build
on the success of its predecessor with a new set of qualities all of
its own.
Scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in
March and on sale here later in the year, new Meriva turns the
concept of compact, flexible transport on its head. The new car has
already attracted the attention of the country's top motoring
writers, Auto Express describing it as "a 'glass' act'" (a
reference to the panoramic views enjoyed by the car's passengers)
and Autocar suggesting it "has echoes of both Insignia and
new Astra."
FlexDoors
New Meriva is the first
Vauxhall model to feature FlexDoors, clever, rear-hinged rear doors
which swing open towards the back of the car at an angle of nearly
90 degrees, vastly improving the ease with which occupants enter and
leave the cabin. Crucially, the FlexDoors can only be opened by
occupants while the vehicle is stationary.
Innovative
in-cabin flexibility
Once inside, new Meriva buyers
benefit from two further innovations - FlexSpace and FlexRail. The
much-praised FlexSpace system has evolved, allowing easier fold-down
of the rear seats, while moving the seats to create more foot, leg
or shoulder room is also much simpler. And available on selected
models, FlexRail builds on the idea of a traditional centre console,
with a variety of modular storage and comfort solutions that fix on
to an ingenious dual-rail base.
The next development of
Vauxhall's design language
Vauxhall's design language
has evolved steadily in recent times, with big strides being made
with the Insignia and our new Astra model. Not surprisingly, the new
Meriva adopts many of the external and internal design cues
demonstrated by these models alongside a major lift in the perceived
quality of materials used.
Advanced chassis and more
efficient powertrains
With a longer wheelbase and wider
front/rear tracks, new Meriva promises improved ride and handling. A
new range of seven powertrains (four diesel and three petrol) will
be available with power outputs from 75PS to 140PS offering improved
fuel consumption and reduced CO2
emissions of up to 10 percent. Please be assured we will communicate
the all-important technical and environmental information for new
Meriva as soon as it becomes available.
We are also
delighted to announce that following launch a high economy/low
CO2
ecoFLEX model will join the range offering efficiency and
performance without compromise.
We trust you will find this
information useful. We'll be sending you more background on new
Meriva nearer to the Geneva Motor Show. In the meantime, if you'd
